The vision of Jessica Mauboy, braving the heat and flies in Alice Springs during her audition will always be a special Idol moment, but as this talented teenager prepares for the Idol finals, Jessica will need to create new and enduring moments. With such a tough competition this year, Jessica would be excused for feeling daunted, but the powerful soul specialist seems to be taking the experience in her stride.

The beautiful teen can thank her indigenous mother and Indonesian father for her exotic looks, but it’s that crystal-clear voice that really attracted our judging panel’s attention. From an early age, her grandmother involved Jessica in the local church choir, but it seems that our young finalist was always destined to follow music. Living in the ‘noisiest house on the block’, Jessica was exposed to music through the singing of her mother and guitar-playing dad, but the whole family is passionate about music.

Singing from the ripe old age of 3, Jessica was always a promising vocalist but the Road To Tamworth competition exposed her talents when she was 14. Winning her heat and travelling to Sydney to perform, Jessica became the competition’s first and youngest winner – a massive boost to the promising performer’s confidence. Now, faced with a competition of the magnitude of Australian Idol, Jessica intends to take her early achievements one step further – to the Sydney Opera House.
